8 August 2013 Last updated at 09:56 ET A suicide bombing at a funeral for a policeman in south-western Pakistan has killed at least 28 people including a senior police officer, police say. They say that the blast in Quetta, capital of Balochistan, also wounded at least 50 people. Quetta police chief Mir Zubair Mehmood told the AP news agency that the bomber detonated his explosives just before the funeral service was about to start. No-one has claimed responsibility for the attack. However suspicion is likely to fall on the Taliban who have in the past carried out numerous suicide bombings in Balochistan. The province is plagued not just by the Taliban's insurgency, but also by sectarian in-fighting between Sunnis and Shias and a rebellion by Baloch separatists. On Tuesday separatist gunmen killed at least 13 bus passengers near Quetta. Correspondents say the latest bombing marks the culmination of a bloody Ramadan in Pakistan, with more than 90 people killed in at least 11 attacks during the month. 21 June 2013 Last updated at 03:20 ET Western Wall An Israeli Jew has been shot dead near Jerusalem's Western Wall after a guard mistook him for a Palestinian militant, police say. Gunfire was heard on Friday morning at the wall - one of Judaism's holiest sites where hundreds of worshippers were attending prayers at the time. Police say the guard shot the man after hearing him shout "Allahu Akbar". The area, which is patrolled by armed guards, closed to visitors for about an hour but has now reopened. The incident took place at about 07:40 local time (04:40 GMT) as the man emerged from a public toilet at the wall compound. By Alan Strathern Oxford University Of all the moral precepts instilled in Buddhist monks the promise not to kill comes first, and the principle of non-violence is arguably more central to Buddhism than any other major religion. So why have monks been using hate speech against Muslims and joining mobs that have left dozens dead?
This is happening in two countries separated by well over 1,000 miles of Indian Ocean - Burma and Sri Lanka. It is puzzling because neither country is facing an Islamist militant threat. Muslims in both places are a generally peaceable and small minority. Police and forensics experts were in attendance at the scene An imam has been killed in an arson attack at a Shia mosque in the Brussels suburb of Anderlecht. The 46-year-old imam died of smoke inhalation trying to put out the fire. The suspect entered the mosque armed with an axe and a knife, and spread flammable liquid before setting it alight, officials said. He was grabbed and locked in a room by worshippers. Police said his motives were unclear but he had described himself as a Muslim born in 1978. Two prominent Western journalists have been killed in the Syrian city of Homs in the latest violence in the besieged city which left 20 people dead. Sunday Times reporter Marie Colvin, an American, and award-winning French photographer Remi Ochlik died when a shell hit a makeshift media centre in the Baba Amr district. Opposition-held areas of Homs have been besieged since 4 February. Thousands have died in unrest against the rule of President Bashar al-Assad. More than 40 people died on Tuesday alone, including Rami al-Sayed, a man who broadcast a live video stream from Homs used by world media. Mr Sayed was fatally wounded by shrapnel during the shelling of Baba Amr. His brother posted a video of his body in a makeshift hospital. I need to add some commentary before I post the latest news worthy article. If you all read BBC regularly like I do, then you will have read this today. If not, please read the article below. The West has this tendency to tell Muslims how uncivil we are, and that our actions are completely unprovoked. Well, here is a classic example of how hypocritical the Western powers are. They provoke us, when we have a protest, they say we are acting without reason. The news media is brilliant when it comes to defaming large swaths of people. There is no other social or religious group more demonized or persecuted than Muslims. Unfortunately for myself, I have had dear friendships end simply because of the intel fed to their families due to the media. It's quite bizarre and alarming.
